© GK Consulting Ltd., 2010 SQL Centre Pro has been used by us for more than 5 years to provide us with MS SQL Backups, performance data and to monitor services. We have now decided to release the software as a commercial product. SQL Centre Pro currently has the following features, and further features may be added when we have reviewed our beta testers’ comments : • A single licence to cover all servers and databases on which it is installed, allowing deployment to an unlimited number of servers. This is a subscription based service. This is currently £40 per year. The subscription cost includes future updates and email technical support. • Single administration utility allowing you to schedule backups on all your servers from one place. • SQL Backups are compressed, typically to a ratio of around 80%. This does depend on the amount of Binary data held in BLOB fields though. This uses AES256 encryption and optionally a password you set. • Backups can be sent to a LAN / WAN / SAN destination, or optionally to an FTP / TFTP server. Bandwidth throttling • Backup locations can be shared between servers - set them up once, and they’re available to any new servers you add to your backup farm. • Complex backup scheduler. Examples are : o Same time every day. o At specified intervals (e.g. Every 2 hours). o On specific week days. o Restrict backups between certain hours. o First / Last day of the month. • Task resilience. If a task, or part of a task, fails the server can be set to retry the task. For example, if the zipped file cannot be sent to an FTP server temporarily, the server will retry up to as many times as you set. • EMail notification of task outcome, with verbose logging and time taken for each backup operation / total time taken. In addition to backups, SQL Centre Pro provides : • Disk space and table / database space monitoring. View charts showing database growth over a period of time, allowing you to prepare for disk space expansion and spot potential problems. • Service Monitoring. Receive notification when SQL Services stop / pause, and attempt automatic restart. • An Android app to monitor and run backup / disk space tasks (free download from the Android Market).
