POP2SMTP (v2.0)
Welcome to the POP2SMTP page.
POP2SMTP is a Windows NT Service that will retrieve mail from multiple POP3 accounts and forward them to another email address using SMTP. This is typically useful in organisations where users have their own email accounts, or domains are held with ISPs that can't provide an SMTP feed.
Where an ISP gives you a dynamic IP address, you will be unable to use the SMTP service in programs such as Microsoft Exchange Server to receive mail. In the UK, for example, ADSL connections currently do not give a static IP address, so their obvious speed cannot be used for an organisation's email requirements.
This is version 2.0 of POP2SMTP, released June 24th 2001. This adds support for Content Filtering. The Help file will be completed within two weeks and forwarded to all registered users.
The POP2SMTP solution provides the following :
Native Windows NT Service Does not need a user to be logged on, will continue working when users log on and off at the server
Built-in Scheduler Downloads mail at predetermined intervals or a specific time of the day
Dial Up Networking Mail can be collected using your LAN or Windows Dial up Networking (RAS). Connections are dialled as needed and dropped when complete.
Mail Mapping Mail for more than one recipient can be collected from each POP3 account. Using mail mapping, recipient addresses in the original email can be redirected to another account. Using Domain mapping, all addresses to a particular domain can be redirected to another. For example, mail to mydomain.com could be redirected to mynewdomain.com and the address portion (before the '@' sign), appended automatically.
Attachment Logging Incoming attachments are logged. Details are : Sender, Recipient, Attachment Name, Attachment Type (e.g. 'JPG') and Attachment Size in Bytes. This data can be exported to Excel and a variety of other formats for analysis, in the same way as other logs.
System and Mail Transfer Logging System events such as network connections and mail transfer are logged in the System Log. The Mail Transfer Log list all mails received with their destination and subject.
Outlook XP Attachment Renaming Microsoft Outlook XP blocks access to certain attachment types. To alleviate this problem, POP2SMTP can rename incoming attachments automatically to an attachment type that Outlook will not block. e.g. Rename .EXE attachments to .MYEXE, or rename all .VBS scripts to ensure the scripts don't run.
Attachment Filtering Block incoming attachment types. Stop users from receiving VB Script files, EXE files etc.
Sender Filtering Block messages from specific senders. Useful for stopping spam from filling up your users' mailboxes.
